Dual Canadian and South African citizenship, indicative of a career that is split between North America and Southern Africa, as are his qualification highlights: BSc Eng. ’72 and B.Eng. (Mining) ’74, both Halifax, GCC (SA) Mine Manager ’82 and MDP UNISA ’87.

His career moved rapidly, also between hemispheres – he has been involved with mining and mining projects in North and South America, Africa, Australia, India and the Philippines. He has been in mine management since the early 80’s and in group executives since the late 80’s, but mostly as COO, with some CEO roles, emphasising his strong mine-engineering and operations management focus.

His achievements as a mining innovator heralds a remarkably consequential career.
• He introduced vertical crater retreat (VCR) mining and paste fill to a deep, highly-stressed copper orebody, which to date has never been replicated internationally. Okiep was the only profitable u/g copper mine in the world at the time.
• He introduced VCR mining to the diamond mines in Kimberley to eliminate the hazards associated with block caving and sub level caving of kimberlite pipes.
• He introduced Inter-particle Crushing (IPC) to the re-crush section of Jwaneng mine treatment plant as well as in-pit crushing to the mine. Diamond production at Jwaneng - the richest mine in the world - was increased by 50%.
• He introduced trackless mining in 1986 to all the deep level gold and platinum mines of JCI in South Africa, improving safety, reducing labour requirements and thereby operating costs by 40%.

He now resides In Canada and, after a stint in private equity, he is eager to get back to his primary profession – that of mining engineer, mine manager, or to serve on the EXCO of a dynamic mining group as COO, or Executive responsible for Operations, or for Technical Services - wherever.
