BCom. Unisa ’92. This qualification probably had less of an impact on this senior executive’s prowess in providing top of the line support services for mega projects than his natural leadership talent and the particular career path that he followed. A national diploma in cost accounting in ’84 underpinned his career in finance and administration that began in ‘82 with JCI. He stayed with this employer as it went through name changes and corporate action until he left BHP BILLITON ENERGY COAL SA (BECSA) in 2012. During those twenty years he evolved – taking ever increasing responsibility - from Accounts Assistant to Accountant, Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Assistant Financial Manager and Financial Manager – a position that he filled at two collieries until 2000. He then progressed to providing supply change management as a corporate shared service for three years, which positioned him to become the project manager for implementing the SAP ERP system for coal operations both in SA and Australia. As Business Systems Manager he continued to optimise this system until 2007, when he moved on to what was to be his calling: Project Services Manager, a position he filled for five years until 2012.

From 2012 he spent four years as Project Controls Manager with Glencore Coal SA. He has since been providing expert capital project support services on contract assignment to project owners and to EPC / EPCM companies. He has been a registered PMP, but while he could lead a SAP implementation project and is more than conversant with project management principles and protocols, he is happy to leave the actual leading of mega mining / engineering projects to competent engineers and to expertly provide that comprehensive support without which such projects would be chaotic.
