Short Profile | This UK citizen, now a SA resident, qualified BSc (Hon) Mining Engineering Nottingham University ’75 and became a Learner Official at Vaal Reefs that same year. He would work for Anglo American - De Beers for 22 years. Four years at Vaal Reefs would see him progress to Shift Boss supervising stoping and development, attaining GCC Mining Manager certification.
Seven years at De Beers diamond mines followed, progressing from Mining Foreman ’83 at CDM to Ass Manager Production Lehlakane Mine by ’85. Then followed 30 months at Finsch Mine as Section Manager Planning / Production. By ’88 he was back to mining gold. As Section Manager: Planning he was responsible for medium and long-term planning for one year at Elandsrand, with the introduction of backfill. That was followed by four and a half years as Section Manager Production and setting a production record. What made this achievement more notable was that after serious injuries - dragged by a scraper - few had expected that he would return to underground operations. Mid ’94 saw him back at Vaal Reefs. He would spend his last three years with Anglo where he began, becoming Business Unit Manager of Vaal Reefs Operations in ’96.
From end ’97 he would spend two years as Shaft Manager Selebi Phikwe BCL Botswana, followed by three years with RUC Murray & Roberts as Contracts Manager and two years with CI International as Project Director. From 2006 to 2016 he played a leading role on the Sedibelo project, even as ownership changed: four years as Project Mining Engineer with Barrick Platinum, three years as Principal Mining Project Engineer with Platmin and three as General Manager with Platmin.
His substantial mining operations management credentials are matched by his achievements in mining projects development: he has completed a few major definitive/ bankable feasibility studies.
